Gathering a Vision for the TLC Building, Future
Moving forward with the vision committee’s strategic plan
Trinity Lutheran Church continues to implement the action items set forth in the vision committee’s strategic plan. Early this past summer a group of congregation members met to discuss the Mission Priority: Environment. Many thanks go out to the following members who have agreed to participate on this task force: Jerry Anderson, Pastor Ann, Mike Grabenstein, Gordon Longwell, Jack Riggs, and Gene Tanzey.
As described in the strategic plan, the goal is to “Develop and sustain an inviting, welcoming, accessible, safe, and well-maintained environment.” The strategies outlined in the strategic plan include:
1. Form a task force to inventory the condition of facility systems. Assessment should include but is not limited to the following: electrical, plumbing, heating, sound and technology, roof, physical plant, fixtures (including the organ), grounds and signage, ADA compliance, and telephone.
2. Determine and prioritize necessary environment repairs, along with an itemized environment “wish list.”
3. Develop a long-range environment plan to implement changes, repairs and upgrades, with consideration to utilization of space, design plans, cost analysis, and funding mechanisms.
The first meeting occurred in June and involved a brief walk-through of the facilities. While a number of needs were noted, the immediate need for the Church was to address leakage occurring on the roof. Mike Grabenstein took the lead to find solutions to the problem, and a recommendation was made to Church Council for approval.
Another meeting occurred in July, and the task force outlined a plan for gathering input from congregation committees regarding each committee’s facility needs.
The most recent meeting was on September 8, at which point the committee reviewed and edited forms that will be used to gather information from TLC staff, committees, and groups. Information regarding facility needs will be gathered during the month of October. The intention is to have a report on staff, committee, and group facility needs that will be presented at the November council meeting. Ultimately, this information will be used to prioritize the facility needs of the church and to identify the facility requirements to accomplish the long-term goals within the strategic plan.
We are excited and honored to carry out the facility action items in the strategic plan. Please feel free to share your ideas, thoughts, and concerns regarding the facilities at Trinity Lutheran Church with any of the members on the task force. Members of the Task Force will be present for discussion with TLC members at an Adult Forum on Sunday, October 23 at 9:45am.
