Thrivent for Lutherans Matches Funds Raised at TLC for 2nd Wild Salmon Feast

(COEUR D’ALENE - April 11, 2010) –Thrivent Financial for Lutherans recently provided a monetary boost to a fundraising effort held in February for Family Promise® of North Idaho (FPNI).

Cindy Wood, Executive Director of FPNI, accepted a check for $1,000 as a match for funds raised at the 2nd Annual Wild Salmon Feast. The tasty benefit had netted $2,361, bringing the total raised to $3,361. The dinner was sponsored by the area’s three ELCA Churches: Calvary Lutheran Church in Post Falls, and Lutheran Church of the Master and Trinity Lutheran, both of Coeur d’Alene. White Cane Sockeye Salmon of Coeur d’Alene provided the tasty wild salmon for the event which promises to become an annual affair.

“We are so grateful to all who have made this wonderful donation possible,” says Wood. “It is exciting to see the support of so many people, as the community becomes more aware of the important work of Family Promise.”

Family Promise® of North Idaho, which marks its 2nd Anniversary this month, empowers families in need to become self-sufficient by providing temporary housing, employment and housing assistance, as well as individual and family counseling. For more information about FPNI, call 208.777.4190.

Trinity recently finished hosting our first week for the Family Promise Network of North Idaho. TLC Family Promise Coordinators, Jill Jurvelin and Jill Dougherty, say they know first-hand the true meaning of the phrase “Blessed to be a Blessing.” What a wonderful experience hosting our first Family Promise guests was!

We are so grateful to everyone who cooked, shopped, played, dropped off, took kitchen duty, spent the night and so graciously welcomed our guests. God’s blessing on you all and, especially, our new friends: Travis and Shelly and their 3 darling boys, along with Laura and her two darling children.

We will try to keep the congregation updated on the families in the network, and how they are doing. Watch for notice of upcoming Family Promise training sessions coming to TLC and area FPNI Network Churches.
