Dimensions of Internship: A Series of Events

As we prepare for the arrival of our siminary intern, Barb Gwynn, (see article below) it will be important for all uf us to learn about the process, since all of us will take a part in it.

The internship year can be viewed as a series of events or stages that occur. Click HERE for the specifics of these stages and how we can participate in making this a delightful year and very good experience.

Intern Barb Gwynn Assigned to Trinity Lutheran Church!

Trinity Lutheran Church, in partnership with Luther Seminary, is proud and excited to introduce Intern Barb Gwynn. Barb has been attending Luther Seminary since 2007 as part of Luther’s innovative Distributive Learning Program – a program that combines the seminary’s online classes and campus classes, so candidates studying for the ministry can learn while being engaged in ministry.

The Internship year is a graduation requirement of Luther Seminary and an ecclesiastical requirement for those candidates seeking ordination within the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Barb lives in the Spokane Valley and is an occupational therapist by profession. Most recently she has been working with Rev. Erik Samuelson at Bethlehem Lutheran, which is exploring ways to transform the congregation in both local and global mission and
ministry.

“We are exploring how to be part of God’s mission and bring God’s promises to this community.” Barb said. “There is tension, an ebb and flow between the comfort of tradition and catching a vision for what God will have us do next.”

Barb comes with a variety of gifts for ministry, incorporating her life experience as mother and health care provider, active church member and artist. Her hobbies include lap swimming, road biking, nature, concerts and art including: drawing and painting studies, liturgical art, small group and multigenerational art projects with reflective or biblical focus. She has a passion for reaching out into the community with the gospel.

In the months to come, we will share more about the internship process as we prepare to welcome Barb into our midst come September. I am so proud to have an intern come to Trinity. This congregation’s gifts of encouragement, humor, grace and hospitality will be a blessing to an intern. And it will be a delight and privilege to take part in shaping a future pastor for the church.

Please look on the Welcome Table in the Narthex for an article about Barb that was recently featured in the Fig Tree.

VBS Changes and Thanks

With a hearty thank you to all who volunteered to help with Vacation Bible School this summer, we must announce that Trinity Lutheran will NOT be able to go ahead with VBS plans. As you know, this is a huge project that requires much planning and a significant number of volunteers to make it possible. We have every expectation that next year we will be able to again provide an outstanding VBS experience for kids. Meanwhile, we encourage kids to attend Vacation Bible School at:

Lutheran Church of the Master
4800 Ramsey Road
July 19-23 from 8:30am to 11:30am
Call 765-1002 for more information

Please consider helping with this program by volunteering your time to teach, assist teachers, serve snacks or decorate. Let’s partner with LCM in this important outreach endeavor!

To volunteer, phone:
Gayle Jones, 640-0163 or
Amanda Marcoe 765-1002, ext 102

However, we WILL have our own Vacation Bible School for 4 and 5-year-old children of Trinity. The dates are:

Tuesday, July 6 through Friday, July 9
8:30-11:30 a.m.

Please call the church office, 664-5743, to register your children.

Relay for Life a Success

Relay was a great success! There were 67 teams (increase from last year). There were 150 survivors that got invitations to the Relay and dinner. A total of $104,719.77 was raised in cash, of which Trinity raised $1,727.16.

I'd like to thank my wonderful crew of Andrea, Elsie Patrick, Jovanna Tanzey and Matt, for help with registration sign-up and decorating ideas and luminary bag photos. Also the high school art class that made the flowers for the survivor birthdays and site decorations. Also the wonderful people who walked for our team. God blessed us with good weather and fun was had by all. Looking forward to next year’s event.
